DNA Sonification

This installation deals with the process of sonification of human DNA and possible modifications of the genetic code. It provides a metaphorical platform that reflects the rapid development in the biotechnological sector and its potential implications for human society. It explores ethical dilemmas, such as: Is it morally acceptable to modify the genetic code of organisms? What could be the positive and negative consequences of such interventions?

In the context of this installation, there is an opportunity to interact directly with my DNA, which is transformed into sound forms. Four cubes, representing the nucletides of DNA - Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine and Thymine - provide tools to manipulate the four parameters of sound: amplitude, speed, frequency and echo.

The questions and dilemmas that this topic raises are articulated through sound variations that can be generated by the viewer. Depending on the interaction, the resulting sound product can be pleasant, symbolizing positive genetic alterations, but it can also signal fatal consequences of negative interventions. This interaction thus creates a sound representation of genetic manipulation and allows the viewer to perceive potential impacts of genetic interventions.
